EMERALD PLACE
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo, Madagascar
You will be greeted at the airport by our team and transferred to your hotel in downtown Antananarivo.
Day 2: Antsiranana and the Three Bays of Diego
We fly from the capital to Antsiranana (Diego), home to the second-largest bay in the world. Known for its rugged beauty, the walk leads you through a succession of three bays: Sakalava, Pigeon, and finally the Dunes. Each bay has a unique landscape, but all share turquoise waters.
We will explore Cape Miné, with its cannons and fortifications that testify to the role of the former colonial army in the Bay of Antsiranana. We then complete our loop and reach the village of Orangea Ramena. On the way back to Diego Suarez, we enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Day 3: Emerald Sea
Accompanied by experienced sailors and fishermen, you will take a boat to a small island off the Bay of Diego to reach the Emerald Sea. You will spend the day relaxing and snorkeling in clear waters while your hosts prepare a meal using their daily catch.
After the excursion, you will be transferred to Joffreville, the gateway town to Amber Mountain.
Day 4: Amber Mountain
Located about twenty kilometers from the port, the lush Montagne d'Ambre National Park is home to lemurs, sacred waterfalls, and dense vegetation. Montagne d’Ambre was the first national park created in Madagascar. We will trek through the park to observe different lemur species as well as the smallest and rarest chameleons in the world.
Day 5: Joffreville to Ankarana & Red Tsingy Visit
On our way to Ankarana, we will discover the Red Tsingy, located in the mountains southeast of Diego. Formed by erosion within Madagascar’s sedimentary basin, these formations consist of sandstone, marl, and limestone, surrounded by varied vegetation. We arrive in Ankarana in the middle of the afternoon.
Day 6: Tsingy of Ankarana
Ankarana National Park is one of the best places in Madagascar to see the famous Tsingy formations. We walk through forests rich in endemic wildlife and enjoy spectacular views of these sharp limestone pinnacles. In the afternoon, we visit the Red Tsingy again for different perspectives and light.
Day 7: Ankarana – Ankify – Nosy Be
We drive through plantations of coffee, cocoa, and ylang-ylang, crossing one of Madagascar’s most fertile volcanic regions. We pass near the Tsaratanana Massif, which contains the island’s highest peak. After passing through Ambilobe, we reach the port of Ankify, where we take a boat to Nosy Be. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel.
Day 8: Nosy Komba & Nosy Tanikely
Today is dedicated to an excursion to the islands of Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely. We visit the Nosy Komba reserve for a close encounter with the Eulemur macaco (Black Lemur). We then continue to Nosy Tanikely, a small island in the Nosy Be archipelago.
This island forms part of a marine reserve and offers one of the region’s best snorkeling experiences. Surrounded by coral reefs, the underwater biodiversity is extremely rich, and you may even spot sea turtles. A seafood lunch prepared onsite will be served during this full-day excursion.
Day 9: Nosy Be Island Tour
We begin with a visit to the market in the colonial town of Hell-Ville, where spice traders, vegetable vendors, and fishermen sell their daily catch. Quad bikes will then take you across the island through ylang-ylang plantations and sugarcane fields, offering insight into local agriculture and island life.
