ANTOETRA

Day 1: Antoetra – Faliarivo – Antetezandrotra – Sakaivo (6h Walk / Camping)

Departure from Antoetra at 8 a.m. for a full day of walking. The first section takes us to Faliarivo, located on top of a hill with open views over the surrounding valleys. We then descend, passing through Antetezandrotra. Picnic lunch at noon. Another long descent of about 30 minutes, with granite steps arranged along the path, leads us to Sakaivo, another beautiful Zafimaniry village. Dinner and overnight camping near the village.

Day 2: Sakaivo – Amboasary – Ampasina (5h Walk / Camping)

After breakfast, begin walking toward Fanandrana, a beautiful waterfall where swimming is possible. After a short break, continue along the trail heading further south to the village of Ampasina, where we spend the night camping.

Day 3: Ampasina – Betsingaory – Maromanana (6h Walk / Camping)

We leave for the village of Betsingaory and then enter the Maromanana Tanala region. This village lies deep in a beautiful valley near a river. Fruits and vegetables grow abundantly everywhere. We follow dirt footpaths used only by pedestrians. Dinner and overnight camping near the village.

Day 4: Maromanana – Fiadanana – Sandratsy (6h Walk / Camping)

We walk along the Fiadanana River to the village of the same name. There are several river crossings and wet fields, so it is likely our feet will get wet. The trail is inaccessible to vehicles because collapsed bridges block the route. The forest gradually gives way to a stunning bamboo landscape of various sizes. It is very lush and green. It is also possible to swim in the river above the village (a 5–10 minute walk leads to a beautiful natural pool). Overnight camping.

Day 5: Sandratsy – Analamarina (6h Walk / Camping)

We continue walking to Analamarina. Beautiful valleys unfold one after another, farming activity is intense, and we meet many locals along the way. Bivouac in the courtyard of a house.

Day 6: Analamarina – Tsaratanana (5h Walk / Camping)

A walking trail winds through fields of yellow flowers. It is an easy walk to Tsaratanana, which means “beautiful village” in the local language. Overnight camping.

Day 7: Tsaratanana – Ifanadiana – Ranomafana (3h30 Walk / Hotel)

It is an easy 16 km track to reach Ifanadiana, where our vehicle awaits to transfer us to Ranomafana. Ranomafana is a small village about 45 minutes away, famous for the nearby Ranomafana National Park, known for its dense rainforest and lemurs. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
