ANAKAO

Day 1: Antananarivo – Antsirabe

Departure for Antsirabe (3-hour drive) through the central part of Madagascar toward the south. Upon arrival in Antsirabe, transfer to the hotel. Lunch, followed by a city tour, including a visit to a craft shop displaying miniature means of transport made from recycled cans and pieces of wood. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Antsirabe – Antoetra

Drive to Antsirabe with a stop in Ambositra. Here you will find shops and craft workshops offering Zafimaniry art, totems, and many other sculptures in rosewood and ebony. Upon arrival in Antoetra, check in at the hotel. Afternoon walk to the village of Ifasina, a typical settlement where you can learn more about the Zafimaniry people and their culture. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Antoetra – Ranomafana

In the morning, drive through the beautiful landscapes of the Betsileo region toward the rainforest of Ranomafana. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel. In the evening, enjoy a night walk of about 1 hour 30 minutes with a local guide specializing in spotting nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Ranomafana

Full day exploring Ranomafana National Park. Hike in the park with our local guide to see species of diurnal lemurs, reptiles, birds, and various plants. At midday, return to the hotel for lunch. In the late afternoon, head back into the forest in search of other species and enjoy another night walk. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Ranomafana – Andringitra

Full-day drive to Andringitra. Pass through the town of Fianarantsoa for a glimpse of the historic old city. Stop at Ambalavao to discover the origin of Antemoro paper, introduced centuries ago by Arab immigrants who settled in southeastern Madagascar. Opportunity to buy souvenirs. Continue along a dusty road for about two and a half hours until Andringitra. Arrival in the late afternoon and check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Andringitra

Today, you are in the mountains near the second-highest peak in Madagascar. Hiking and exploring Andringitra National Park, mainly the “Diavolana” area with its lunar landscape, is often called “alien.” Continue to a sacred waterfall. The walk takes approximately six hours. Picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight camping inside the park.

Day 7: Andringitra – Ranohira

Five-hour drive to Ranohira. En route, pass by Ihosy and then the Horombe Plateau stretching as far as the eye can see. It is the largest plateau on the island and home to herds of Bara zebus. Arrival in Ranohira at the end of the afternoon. Evening free. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 & 9: Ranohira

Two days to discover Isalo National Park. Isalo is composed of sandstone massifs, natural pools, waterfalls, and forest inhabited by lemur species such as maki and sifaka fulvus. Picnic lunches in the park on both days. After each visit, return to the village. One evening, drive to the Window of Isalo, located 12 km in the western part of the park, for a beautiful sunset. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 10: Ranohira – Tulear – Ifaty or Anakao

Drive about four hours to Tulear. Shortly after departure, pass through the town of Ilakaka, known as the Wild West of Madagascar (the sapphire town). Then cross the forest of Zombitse Forest and see baobabs along the way. Upon arrival in Tulear, continue driving along a sandy coastal road for about one and a half hours to Ifaty, or take a boat transfer of about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Anakao. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 11 & 12: Ifaty or Anakao

Days at leisure. Optional activities are available. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: Ifaty or Anakao – Tulear – Antananarivo

Return to Tulear and transfer to the airport. Flight to Antananarivo. Meet and transfer to the hotel upon arrival. Dinner and overnight.

Day 14: Antananarivo

City tour including a visit to Ambohimanga Rova, north of the city. Explore the city center, traditional markets, and local craft markets before transferring to the airport for your international flight. Day use at the hotel.
