Tsingy de Bemaraha

Day 1: Drive to the Tsingy de Bemaraha

235 km, about 7 hours’ drive including ferry crossings and lunch in Belo sur Tsiribihina

• Meet at the airport in Morondava, then drive to Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park.

• Lunch in Belo sur Tsiribihina, the cultural capital of the Sakalava people.

• Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Full-Day Hiking

Approx. 8-hour hike

• Start the morning with a dugout canoe visit along the Manambolo River: caves, stalactites, stalagmites, the famous Vazimba family tombs (said to date from the 17th century), and spectacular limestone gorges.

• Begin the hike on the “Sportif” circuit.

To see:

Labyrinths of limestone, viewpoints over the pinnacles, forest canyons, optional abseiling sections, Decken’s sifaka (the largest sifaka in western Madagascar), red-fronted brown lemurs, birds, and spiders.

Day 3: Full-Day Loop in the Big Tsingy

• Early morning drive (15 km, about 1 hour) to the Big Tsingy.
• Hike the main circuit, including caves, suspension bridges, and panoramic views over the limestone “skyscrapers.”
• Descend into forest and rocky canyons and continue to the second major circuit. Picnic lunch required, with enough water for an 8-hour walk.

To see:

Cracks up to 30 meters deep, forest canyons inhabited by lemurs and birds, unique endemic and medicinal plants, caves, rock “cathedrals,” and sweeping views from the highest points.

• Drive back to the hotel in the evening. Optional nocturnal walk with a local guide to see chameleons and the rare pygmy mouse lemur.

Day 4: Visit Kirindy Forest

Drive to Kirindy Forest, located on the road back to Morondava.
Night walk to observe nocturnal lemurs, including mouse lemurs and fork-marked lemurs.

Day 5: Avenue of the Baobabs and Return to Morondava

• Morning visit in the dry deciduous forest to see lemurs, birds, and rodents.
• Lunch at a restaurant.
• Slow drive to the famous Avenue of the Baobabs for sunset photography.
• After sunset, drive to Morondava.

Day 6: Transfer to Morondava Airport

After a short visit around Morondava, transfer to the airport for your flight to Toliara or back to Antananarivo, depending on your onward travel plans.
