Ambatondrazaka Activities
Day 1: Drive from Tana to Bandro Park
Drive from Antananarivo (Tana) to Andreba.
Overnight at Camp Bandro or with local villagers.
Day 2: Visit Lake Alaotra Bamboo Lemur (Bandro)
Very early morning canoe trip on Lake Alaotra to observe the endemic Lake Alaotra bamboo lemur, locally called the Bandro, as well as various waterbird species.
Return to the village of Andreba and stay with the local community.
Overnight at Camp Bandro or with residents.
Day 3: Drive and Hike to Zahamena National Park
Early morning drive to Antanandava, the entrance to Zahamena National Park. Meet your local guide and porters.
Begin your visit to the park. You may see the Indri-Indri (the largest lemur species in Madagascar), spiders, and diverse plant life.
After about six hours of walking, camp inside the national park.
Day 4: Trek to the Natural Swimming Pool in Zahamena
Trek to a natural swimming pool beneath a waterfall. Possibility to see giant millipedes and Indri lemurs.
Camping at Bemoara campsite.
Day 5: Explore the Primary Forest of Zahamena
From Bemoara, trek into the primary forest of Zahamena. Search for the nest of the aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis), one of the world’s most endangered mammals.
The campsite will depend on where the aye-aye nest is located.
Night walk to observe this unique nocturnal animal.
Day 6: Walk Back to the Park Entrance and Drive to Andreba
Walk back to Bemoara and continue to the park entrance.
Drive back to Andreba village.
Overnight at Camp Bandro or with the local community.
Day 7: Return to Tana or Continue to Andasibe
Today, you may choose to return to Antananarivo or continue your journey to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park (Indri tour), which can also be combined with a trip to Île Sainte-Marie (Green tour).
